Bellatrix, Beta Quadrant (FNN) - According to new reports reaching us today, what was previously assumed to be an attack on the starbase has in fact been confirmed by Far Reach Station Operations as a virus outbreak of an unknown kind. The starbase has been put under strict quarantine.

The seemingly uncontrollable outbreak of a yet to be identified infection has Far Reach's 250.000 inhabitants in sheer panic. Whole sections of the starbase have been sealed off, no-one being allowed to get in or out, station security and hazard teams have been deployed, and ships are not permitted to leave their docking berths.

The infection appears to affect only humans, and symptoms include unprecedentedly high serotonin levels, resulting in extreme violence, the inability to communicate and permanent brain damage. Affected persons have been reported to attack on sight.

Starfleet Command has not offered any comment on the matter, but our correspondents on Bellatrix IV report that dozens of cargo ships are being sent to the now quarantined starbase to take aboard residents in case that becomes necessary.

There still is no explanation regarding the dis- and re-appearance of a large part of the station where the virus outbreak seems to have originated.
