Battle of RP908
During a bloody battle on a Rogue Planet passing through the Sigma Librae system, Marines and Officers from the USS Oberon and USS Cambrian have suffered heavy losses at the hands of an unknown foe.
Sources have revealed that the Marines were sent to the planet to investigate a signal that was detected. Arriving on the barren rock they split into teams in an attempt to triangulate the position of the signal. However, it appears that whilst they were separated they were attacked without provocation by a previously undiscovered species. We have yet to uncover a description of the attackers, with both Starfleet Command and the Marine Corp playing down the seriousness of the fight. However sources have revealed that the Marines have nicknamed their enemy as “Raptors” due to the ferocity and style of their attack.
Eye-witness reports reveal that the Marines found themselves out-numbered against an enemy that was difficult to kill. The fighting was at close-quarters, the creatures’ ferocity overwhelming the disciplined troops. Many brave soldiers were killed by these Raptors but the death toll could have been worse. Our sources suggest that the Raptors had the Marines beaten, and that had they not withdrawn from the fight the number of dead would have been significantly higher.
The total cost of this encounter stands at 22 wounded and 15 dead, with most of the wounded expected to recover from their wounds. The families of the deceased have been informed and memorial services held on both the USS Cambrian and USS Oberon. Once the USS Valkyrie returns from the Sigma Librae Outpost with her solemn cargo, the bodies of the fallen will be repatriated to their home worlds
It is not known where these creatures originate from but the threat to Starfleet’s planned exploration of this new sector cannot be ignored.
