Galactic Rock Star Rises Again
The medium-size dome was in fact finishing construction but the commanding officer of the moonbase, Captain Vron, confirmed that following the success of the double concert, it was repurposed “indefinitely” to host various public events. “Mandukar moonbase and dockyards opened for business one year ago. Trading is on the rise. We get a lot of visitors from the mining operation at Valencia Fields. In-system, the New Daikon colony is about to inaugurate its first university and planning for a medical university next. Within months, a third colony and our second outpost will open in Farlong Reefs. The Deimos Dome can be adapted to host a range of artistic events and conferences to fit the needs of our thriving sector. You could say Deimos brought us to this realization and showed us the way. We are honoured that she accepted to lend her name to the dome. It has become a landmark to all Galactic Rock fans around here.”
Like Jazz, Galactic Rock or – as fans would have it – Grock never seems to get old. By all accounts, the double concert was an unmitigated success drawing crowds from all over the sector. Unconfirmed rumours have it that some Starfleet commanding officers had to bow to popular demand and reroute their ships to attend the event. It is a fact that the entire Task Force attached to the sector was present at the time of the concert, including the Flag ship, the USS Avalon.
Mandukar was also treated to a whole different show as the Grock star introduced herself by swimming naked in a public pool, in full view of the fans come to greet her. An anonymous source in base security commented “Given her reputation, some of us were prepared for the worst. As public offences go, this remained fairly low key and good-humoured. She played her part and the fans were happy with that. The fine was paid, she made a donation and we all moved on.”
On a more artistic note, Mandukar’s News musical critic, Dion Atakis, was extactic on Deimos’s performance. “So many artists these days rely on special effects and technology to seduce audiences, it takes a classic rock star like Deimos to remind you that music is about a composer, a text and performers. She is all three and she doesn’t need the show to convince an audience for her. She is the show. Deimos is timeless. We haven’t seen the last of her, by a long stretch.” Some of her fans at least have seen a lot more of her than they bargained for. As one of them put it in humour, “not so many Grock stars can claim they put a moon on the map.”
Let it not be the last claim for fame for Deimos, whose star is indeed rising again on Federation Top Charts.
