In the Spotlight: An Interview with Anthony Wittrock
Interview conducted for FNN by Charlie Greene
Today, we're interviewing Captain Anthony Wittrock, the game manager of Outpost Sierra VI, formally Starbase 418.
FNN: Anthony, you recently took command of Starbase 418 and renamed the sim Outpost Sierra VI. Can you tell us why the new direction?
AW: I sought out the new direction because I believed it's important. I have huge respect for my predecessor, Roy Conklin. I wanted to honor his legacy and contribution to the simulation and the Sixth Fleet as a whole. I decided to change course. I wanted to keep the station aspect. I, however, believe the Ournal is too large of a starbase, so we ultimately went with the Regula.
FNN: Tell us about Outpost Sierra VI. What type of space station? Where is it located? Etc.
AW: Sierra VI is a Regula Base outpost located on the edge of the Romulan Neutral Zone. It was an expansion of the original Earth Outposts that were constructed to monitor and report Romulan activity along the Neutral Zone. Sierra VI was constructed sometime before the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Defector". Sierra VI was mentioned by name only and was never seen visibly on or off screen.
FNN: In the Sixth Fleet timeline, the Hobus star went super nova this year, and the Romulus system was destroyed. I take it that this will be the sim's focus in the coming year?
AW: The simulation will focus on the Hobus supernova and will explore the events surrounding it. I wanted to place the game in a region of significance to offer players opportunities for new stories. This also places us in a position to welcome Sixth Fleet simulations aboard when they are off to bring peace to a turbulent area of the galaxy.
FNN: Do you plan to focus on any particular element of post-Hobus RSE, such as refugee support or political unrest?
AW: Sierra VI won't focus on one particular element of a post-Hobus RSE but multiple
FNN: Will Sierra VI's plot stay put on the Outpost Sierra VI, or do you think the game will travel beyond the station's bulkheads?
AW: Eventually, as the ongoing story develops, there maybe one or a few ships attached to Outpost Sierra VI.
FNN: What type of positions do you have open? Are there any special roles that you're trying to fill?
AW: Right now we are looking for a Chief Medical Officer and a Chief Flight Control Officer in terms of department head positions. We are accepting non-Starfleet positions. All you have to do is contact me with which role you want to play as a civilian.
FNN: So, you're not SB418 anymore. What do we call Outpost Sierra VI for short? OSVI?
AW: OSVI. =)
