The Delta Triangle: The Final Frontier?
As the new fleet of Luna-class vessels explore the depths of space, and Starfleet establishes a foothold in the distant Hurucan Sector, there is still a large sector of space near our core worlds that has gone unexplored.
The Delta Triangle is a vast region of space, several light-years from Cestus III, which has the unusual effect of causing havoc with the general operation of starship systems. This has meant the area has gone unexplored for decades, and so far no cause has been found for this strange effect.
Bordered by the Federation, Gorn Hegemony and the Tholian Assembly the Triangle is also located close to the Klingon Empire and is a region that is hotly contested by all of these powers. However, with the difficulties experienced when traversing the Triangle, no one power has been able to lay claim to it, leaving the Triangle as a vast untamed wilderness.
Over recent years Sixth Fleet has begun the unenviable task of mapping the Triangle, with the USS Athena leading the exploration. Based out of Starbase 218, the Athena has gradually developed systems that help protect her from the worst of the Triangles effects. She has discovered several new worlds within the Triangle, inhabited by such races as the Jorin and Shard, both having adapted to life within the Triangle. However, there is still a lot to do and the Galaxy-class vessel continues to venture into this Final Frontier, leading Starfleet’s drive for knowledge and exploration of the unknown.
