The Uss Avalon investigates a space anomaly in the Reefs
The Avalon, making use of Transwarp drive, made the trip out past the Sancerre system and back in a few days before the personnel traveling to the new outpost even arrived at the system. They had already been in route for more than a week. Results of the mission are still classified and are currently being studied. Authorities have said that there is nothing to be concerned about and ship traffic and star systems will not be affected.
Despite those word of comfort, this reporter has learned that prior to the mission, all civilian personnel and children were transferred off the ship. At the face of it it seems odd. Civilians have been present on many ships in Starfleet forces during research and even combat missions. What was it about this anomaly that caused the ship's captain, Commodore Chapman-Stark, to offload these people? Why would it only take a few days to do research of an unknown aberration in space? Even with Transwarp, research still takes time. Is the anomaly more dangerous than Starfleet is letting on?
Perhaps the new ship, an Avalon-class command cruiser, may not be up to the task of protecting its crew. Or even worse, maybe the Commodore's ship was conducting research too sensitive for civilians to know about. What seemed like a short successful mission of one of Starfleet's newest ships, has left this reporter with more than a few unanswered questions.
